The seaside village of Bridport was the venue for our May Rally, Bridport is a popular seaside venue and swells to treble its size during the summer and holiday season. Like many seaside villages the coastline is equivalent to a few street blocks from farmland. Our hosts were Mick & Kaye Mitchell Chapter members and local residents.

Many arrived on the Thursday and visited the village and strolled the beach areas, it was a fine sunny day which was a change from some of the weather that had occurred in previous days. As usual local people were only to happy to welcome us and talk of the attractions of their village and surrounds.

Our bush camp located equal to two street blocks from the sea and on farmland had been set up prior to our arrival, Our hosts, through their friendship with the farmer had been able to acquire a suitable paddock to set up our yellow canopy and long drop toilets. This set the scene for what was to be a most enjoyable Rally

Friday arrived and the majority of attendees were in by 2pm having a cuppa and chewing the fat renewing acquaintances again, most members chose to eat out at the R.S.L. Club and stay on to hear Hank & Donna Marie Koopman perform and then join in dancing away the evening. On their return to our bush camp they were happy to stand by the huge fire and have an extended happy hour given the chilly night air.

Saturday morning and a few stragglers arrived and most toured the village and beaches with the rest opting to play disc bowls and just sitting around the fire. Time sure passes quickly when you are enjoying the company of your extended family around the fire.
Many opted for fish and chips for tea from the local fish shop located on the wharf area whilst others used the Chapter barbecue to cook their tea, later all came together and with country music playing in the background, reviewed what has occurred since the last Rally and telling the occasional joke and tall story.

Sunday arrived and it was surprising to find the fire still alight given the heavy rain during the night, more wood was piled on and the kettles filled and it didn't take long for them to boil, hot water for tea or coffee or hot coals to toast bread, muffins or crumpets. Most attendees were leaving today to return to work tomorrow. After lunch we bid them farewell and those remaining played cards or disc bowls up until to the happy hour. As we had five boat people at our rally, we bid them farewell for they will be all leaving the State before our next Rally.

Monday and it was time to dismantle the bush camp which as always is done with some reluctance, we had a visit from the farmer whose land we were using and he indicated we were welcome back next year and could, if in the area, use the area for an overnight stay. So we said farewell to each other and made plans to meet again at the next Rally at Triabunna, which will be much smaller given the amount of our Chapter Members who travel interstate during our winter.
