| Our rally
this month was held at the Bagdad Community Centre in the Southern part
of Tasmania. Bagdad is a small township located on the Midlands Highway
40 Kilometres North of the Capital City of Hobart and has a growing population
of young families. Although a small rural community, the community has
produced many talented athletes who represent the state of Tasmania as
well as the community in their chosen fields. Athletics, Softball, Marching
Teams just to name a few. The community strongly supports these sports
persons by fundraising to send them to other parts of the Country to compete.

Our happy hour later
in the day was well attended though due to the inclement weather we had
to retire to the Bagdad Community Centre, where our rally was being conducted,
plus they have bar facilities; a real bonus. Most of us after happy hour returned to our Motorhome's for our evening meal and then returned to the bar at 7 pm to continue the happy hour and watch the AFL Football Preliminary Final. The problem of course is that some were to celebrate the win others commiserate the loss, so many did not leave the bar until closing time very chirpy. Saturday dawned after a pretty dismal and wet early morning and though the sky was overcast it did not stop us getting together firstly to walk to the shop to buy newspapers, along the way we were to come across a few Alpaca's and Sheep, Goats etc. On the way back we were spread out like Brown's Cows, so to speak. We came together later in the morning to have an informal morning tea and to celebrate Audrey's Birthday. Of course a hearty rendition of Happy Birthday was to ring out across the paddocks of rural Bagdad |

The afternoon produced
rain and a cold breeze so it was a welcome reprieve to go into the warm
Community Centre at 2pm for our General Meeting. After general business
the Chapter welcomed two boat people and two new members to the Island
Wanderers. There were six members drop in at various times for a day visit.
As we were using the facility later this evening the fire was lit and
the hot water urn turned on for those who preferred tea or coffee. |

| Our Secretary Trix & President hard at it! | Members gathered for our General Meeting |
Most of us stayed behind
after the meeting to watch the second AFL Preliminary Final and as meals
were not available at the complex we returned to our Motorhome's for our
evening meal. At seven we gathered again in the centre to hear reports and story's from members that had been away travelling for most of the winter, there were some hilarious moments with a lot of dobbing in going on, no one was safe which bought much laughter. How can we forget the derision shown the Chapter member who for years has been boasting about not using Caravan Parks in their travels to find out this year that he had been into six all told. He certainly took a good hearted ribbing from us all, though he took it in all good taste and he apoligised for he had sinned. As Denis and Trix had been at the Casino Motorhome Village recently they gave an extensive talk and displayed photo's of "Tassie Week" that was held at the village, it was obvious that those who attended had a wonderful time. We were all enthralled with the discussion and photo's and many questions were asked; it could be that it may become a yearly event. We were to have a discussion with the Community Club President who indicated that he had a Deer Farm just a kilometre away and invited us all to visit the farm on Sunday morning, he stated that if we wanted bring a few apples or pears along the Deer would eat them out of our hands. It rained heavy overnight, though when we all arose, late of course, it had stopped with just a low foggy cloud cover and cold of course, there were not many who ventured out for the morning paper. So it was we set out at 10am to visit the Deer Farm with sufficient apples and pears to feed them. Well, unfortunately it was a long country Kilometre and all up hill, when we arrived we could see the Deer in the distance when we neared they just took off into the bush. We suppose we were such a bedraggled mob that we must have scared the living suitcases out of them for no amount of coaxing would bring them back to the fence. The consolation was that the Stag was a bit more adventurous and though taking off a couple of times came to the fence to get the apples and pears that we had thrown over the fence, there was no way we could feed him by hand. |

It was a pleasant stroll back to our
Rally site with just a small amount of drizzly rain falling, a few had
left for home and the rest of us gathered under the gazebo for a cuppa
and to say our farewells for though it had been mostly wet over the weekend
the friendship and laughter more than helped make up for this minor set
back. |

So it was that all good things must
come to an end, though we vowed to meet again next month at the Clarence
Point Rally when the majority of our Chapter will have returned from their
travels on the mainland. Some of us visited Sunday markets on the way home with a few couples opting to stay over at Kempton for the night before proceeding on home on Monday. Again we thank Eddie and Audrey for the fine job they did in making us all welcome and entertained thoughout the Rally even though the weather was inclement, a job well done. |
