Many of us elected to participate in the pleasures of Motorhoming by arriving at the camping grounds in the North East section of the Tasmanian Coast, three days prior to our Rushy Lagoon Rally. We were treated to wonderful weather with excellent views across Ringarooma Bay towards Bridport and the Islands to the north including Flinders Island.
In all there were 9 Motorhome's along with our other friends from the Traditional Campers who were camping prior to the Hoe Down. Due to fine weather we were able to dine on fresh fish for the period, absolutely beautiful with warm autumn days and campfires at night and of course the traditional happy hour or two.

Did we get sick of eating fish? not likely and catching them was a treat with us coming across a school of salmon chasing bait fish on the surface. Out with the lures and in no time we were pulling Salmon into the boat; again they were distributed to all in the camp.
Moon at pre dawn A few of the early arrivals

Friday morning saw us all head off to Rushy Lagoon to set up for our Rally and link up with our friends from the Waterways Trailblazers and the Traditional Campers who were conducting the Hoe Down.
They, certainly along with the management of the farm made us feel very welcome for the weekend.
We were to unpack the trailer and put up our Yellow Canopy in somewhat gusty conditions, some of our lady members who were anchoring the canopy were nearly lifted off the ground, it made for some interesting moments and plenty of laughter.
We then cut wood for our campfire out of a heap supplied by the farm and we made a fatal mistake of not clearing the surrounding dry grass away from our camp fire.
On went the kettles and then the call "Fire, Fire" was heard as the dry grass caught a light, it showed the importance of buckets of water by our vans for there was a chain reaction and the fire was very quickly doused.
Members and visitors were to arrive through the day and it wasn't long before we were into happy hour.

Our Yellow Canopy up in gusty winds Happy hour and talking about the nights entertainment
In the absence of many of our members and committee persons who were at the Mount Gambier National Rally, Dennis was to outline the events for the weekend and welcomed the four groups of first timers to the Rally with all electing to join the Island Wanderers Chapter by Rally end. As it was St Patrick's day the entertainment for the evening was to be an Irish theme with jokes and singing to take place.

After many cooking their evening meal on the Chapters Barbecue it was into the evening entertainment. Patrick, of course being Irish elected to entertain us with many fine jokes and limericks. Patrick was dressed to represent a leprechaun of course along with the mandatory pint of Guinness being consumed. There was much laughter and as the evening turned cooler the fire was stoked up and with the wind change it drove the heat into our Yellow Canopy, which kept us warm.
We were then entertained by our impromptu choir of ladies who were to sing many fine old Irish songs, which many joined in singing, it was an entertaining evening. Graeme then bought out his tapes of Irish Humour which had many rocking in the aisles, so to speak.
We were to retire really enjoying the impromptu St Patrick's day (night's) entertainment, during the early hours next morning Possums were heard scurrying over the roofs of Motorhome's, though no one was to complain for it added to the country experience.

Saturday dawned a little overcast and many were seen to be out for the morning walk as has become the practice at Rally's, we were to utilise the morning to catch up with friends and to clean out the shearing shed that has twenty shearing stands. A few went out to the bush collecting eucalypt tree branches to place around the shed, which killed off the smell of sheep.
We had our General Meeting at 2pm and during presentations on venues for our Combined Chapter Rally, to be held in February next year, the weather changed and it literally bucketed down with rain, so much so that Geoff had to cease his presentation for we were unable to hear him, though our canopy with just a few leaks kept us dry.
After about twenty minutes the rain passed on and we were to continue. There were many presentations and finally when the members present voted they elected to have St Helens as the venue for the Combined Chapter Rally in 2007.

First Timers into the action Julie and Patrick into the spirit of the Hoe Down

The Saturday evening sausage sizzle, supplied by the Chapter, consisted of two sausages and one hamburger per person with as much fried onion as was required, in all there were 8 kilo's of onions consumed, this bought all of us together with some electing to have salads and others just having their's in bread. There was plenty of sausages and hamburgers, the chance for seconds was taken up by a few.
Then it was eight o' clock and the band was heard to start up and what a band they were, able to read the mood of the Hoe Down attendee's and the appropriate music was played. From Country Rock to Line Dancing was the order of the night with many coming from around the district and beyond to enjoy the night.
There was no doubt that our members enjoyed the night with many dressing in country and western attire with quite a few line dancing and they did it well, many stopped dancing just to watch them in action.
The band played on until 12:30 am with all just plain tuckered out with all the dancing with a few going back to the fire and having a late happy hour.

Resting up Swinging away to the beat of the band

As usual all good things must come to an end and so when Sunday dawned it was time to dismantle our camp and pack up the trailer, wishing all well until the next Rally at Tunnack next month.
Most of us were to stay until after lunch; with a few heading back to Petal Point and Derby and others heading for home.
It was generally agreed that the weekend had been a wonderful experience from the St Patrick's day celebrations, Sausage Sizzle and finally the Hoe Down. Our thanks go to our hosts Jim & Liz
