Tunbridge was the chosen site for our September
Rally, it is this rally that signals the arrival of spring and though
we were to still experience some chilly evenings the two huge fire's is
the hall certainly kept us all warm. Many had travelled to Tunbridge on
the Thursday and settled in waiting for other chapter members arrival
on the Friday. Our hosts Eddie & Audrey had the urn's boiling for
a cuppa on our arrival and as usual Eddie in his efficient manner quickly
parked us up and invited us to an early morning tea; an offer that we
all accepted and a similar invitation applied to those members who arrived
later in the day. |

Many have recently returned from their mainland
travels and it was great meeting them again and swapping story's and information
of the winter journey's, there were many discussions on the winter Rally's
and catching up with where members were, either in the State or on the
Mainland. As usual the disc bowls came out and there was much laughter at the antics of some, there were just a few that played on the friday afternoon the main competitive games took place on the Saturday. After our happy hour and our evening meal we all adjourned to the hall and the nice warm fires, some elected to watch the A.F.L. football and other elected to watch Kay make her lovely handbags. Kay was also to explain how the many cards were made that she is taking to Mudgee for members market day. Others knitted or sat around just chewing the fat and then retired for the night. |

Saturday
dawned foggy with a white frost covering the ground, a few of us elected
to return back to bed and not arise until after 9am. The fog lifted quickly
and then with the blue sky's the sun quickly melted the frost. it was
to turn into a great day. A few of us elected to walk around the village admiring the architecture which included many sand stone buildings and housing, as the television reception is not the best many have satellite dish's perched on their roofs. Then it was time for our general meeting where matters affecting the Chapter were discussed before we returned to the camaraderie of our rally proper. Disc bowls again was played in the warm afternoon sun, there were some strange rule's that applied that again created laughter and at times ernest discussion on what should apply The woman and a few men went into the hall to peel the vegetables and get the camp ovens going for our evening meal, this weekend we elected to have a community casserole night with all members bringing along a few ingredients to make this possible. |

Many hands
make short work and this was the case peeling the vegetables and cooking
the rice to go with the many casseroles, there were many differing tasty
dishes cooked by those members who have been bush camping for many years.
The skills on display was most impressive and it all augured well for
an excellent meal. There was much tasting and of course the cooks used
both the fire and stoves that were available. |

Happy hour
arrived and we all gathered around discussed this weekend and future rally's
and of course indulged in a couple of happy drinks. Audrey was to conduct
a raffle to raise funds for the Relay for Life, a Cancer Council initiative
to raise funds for cancer research. The Chapter has adopted this as our
major charity fund raiser and will be conducting fundraising over many
months including the 22 hour walk a thon in March next year, members are
enthusiastic in their support for this worthy cause especially with many
chapter members or family members being touched by this terrible ailment. |

We were
then to adjourn to have our evening meal and entertainment, as usual there
was enough food to feed an army, so to speak. The different aroma's that
greeted us emanating from the many camp ovens was overwhelming ensuring
that the our waist lines were going to suffer. There were plenty of veggies
or if you desired, rice to go with the many casseroles |

There were
many of us that returned for seconds or just to try the many different
tastes that were available and if this wasn't enough Margaret retired
to the kitchen to make her very popular golden syrup dumplings. What a way to end the meal, golden syrup dumplings covered in warm delicious custard and or cream, very nice indeed talk about over indulging we believe that everyone did that. There was enough casseroles left over plus vegetables, rice and dumplings to ensure that if members desired they could have them for breakfast and we would finish the rest off at lunch time before departing the rally. |

There was no doubt that everyone enjoyed the meal and
had more than there fill as every casserole was sampled, after the meal
many opted to watch football and others just sat around before setting
off for bed. There wasn't a member who did not praise the efforts of
everyone especially Eddie and Audrey our hosts for ensuring such a wonderful
meal and Rally, what a night! |
