After a short winter recess, we gathered at Sorell in the southern part of the State for our September Rally. With many of our members attending the National Rally in outback Barcaldine or Forbes N.S.W. or just touring around the various mainland states, coming together again as a chapter was something we were all looking forward to. Needless to say a few are still touring interstate.
On arrival we were met by Herb, one of our committee persons, who quickly had us parked up in no time and it didn't take long for us to gather in groups to compare our travels and renew acquaintances.
Members arriving at Sorell Bob and his new keyboard
We were lucky enough to have the use of the hall for the weekend for the weather was blustery and cold with a little rain now and again on the friday, this did not dampen our spirits for we were able to gather a few heaters and in no time at all the hall was warm and cosy. There was a steady flow of members arriving who received a most cordial welcome and parked up and joined up with us in the hall.
Bob was playing his new keyboard with encouragement from all, indicating that he would play tonight as part of the entertainment. We had a few lady members doing their crafty items including Denise who was making lead light figures which attracted attention from us all, especially the ladies. Many took the opportunity to visit the Sorell Shopping precinct and re stock with groceries etc. and having a general look around the township.
Awaiting the evenings entertainment Denise doing her craft work
The evening entertainment consisted of one group watching television and the Geelong V Collingwood football match, there was a fair bit of friendly shiacking going on, the rest of us listened to Bob on his keyboard with a few dancing away the night. Given it was our first day of the weekend rally it was certainly entertaining and took our minds off the inclement weather outside.
Saturday saw a change in the weather with beautiful sunny sky's and little wind, the direct opposite of yesterday. This of course bought us all out of our Motorhomes and we were to see small groups of people again with plenty of laughter permeating the surrounding area. Again many were going on to tour the town and its surrounds and of course it wouldn't be the same if we didn't drop into Chicken Feed for a few bargains.
This month was the time for our quarterly meeting where Brian, our treasurer chaired the meeting in the absence of our President and Secretary who were not available. Brian indicated that the meeting would be informal and requested the meeting address Rally Venues for next year. There were many venues from various areas of the state put forward for by members for the committee to select from.
Marlene making a point at meeting Marlene knitting clothes for African H.I.V. Baby's
During the afternoon there were many ladies doing their crafty things again which included Marlene who is knitting clothes for babies who are suffering with H.I.V. in Africa, of course many members were concerned to hear that many babies are merely wrapped in paper and sent home with their parents after birth from hospital. We are sure there will be many of our woman folk who will start knitting for this worthwhile project and if members are interested you should contact Marlene.
Happy hour arrived and as usual it was jovial, including having the opportunity to welcome our guests and members from other chapters, as usual they were greeted with enthusiasm and invited to make themselves at home and be part of our family plus participate in the fun things that had been arranged for this weekend.
Michael with the raffle tickets Our jovial Dancer's
Many went up to the local hotel for their evening meal, which by all reports was enjoyable and on their return they were to join us in the hall and participate in the dancing that was taking place, Bob was playing his new key board exceptionally well belting out music from waltzes to rock and roll. The hall was filled with laughter as members and guests danced the night away, so to speak. In all it has been a wonderful day and especially the evening in the nice warm hall along with the entertainment. It was with reluctance that we all went off to bed, of course all very happy.
Sunday Markets Sorell
Beautiful Daffodils
Sunday is market day in Sorell and the stalls are located in the same area that we are holding our Rally. The morning was cool though the sun was shining, the stall holders started to arrive from 6am and they opened for business at 8am. There are over two hundred stall holders along with carnival rides and children's air castles. It was suggested that chapter members should participate in the latter exercise. We are wondering who the cheeky person was who suggested that a few of us should go on a weight loss programme before participating in the air castles.
John and Colleen conducted the morning church service which was well attended, most if not all rally attendee's spent the next 7 hours looking around the stalls and made many purchases, the vegetables and fruit were very well priced compared to the supermarkets. Members were seen to carry bags of goodies from the stalls. As this was an all day market many were to make many visits during the day.
As this was the last day of the Rally we were to farewell members as they departed late in the day all indicating that we would meet again at our next rally at the Bluff at Devonport. A few decided to stay on for another night and all came together at happy hour and talked about the weekend and future Rally's.
Our special thank you must go to Herb and Sue for the wonderful weekend plus the entertainment and the way that they made all Members and Guests very welcome ensuring a happy and memorable time, also to Margaret, Marlene and Liz for making sure the amenities were clean.
