Our Rally this month was held at the Swansea Football Club grounds given that the original venue was water logged through extensive rain in the area and as usual the Rally was to be conducted come rain, snow or shine. With our scheduled host's Peter & Veronica being transferred in their work Jim & Liz assisted by Peter & Marlene hosted the Rally, we thank Peter & Veronica for setting up the new venue and dealing with many other matters.
The local internet Online Centre boasts that Swansea is:
"Set on the edge of Great Oyster Bay with stunning views of the Freycinet Peninsular and beyond, Swansea lies at the heart of Tasmania's East Coast. With more hours of sunlight than any other place in the state, this historic town has seen convicts, garrisons, saw mills, whalers, fishing fleets and landowners come and go. Much of the town's history can still be found in the buildings, the museum and the historical society". Talking to the local people they are very proud of their village of 500 full time residents and indicated that in the summer holiday months the village grows by many thousands of holidaymaker's.

Marlene&Liz at registration desk
Relaxing in the afternoon sun
Disc Bowls underway
After a week of rain it was great to pull into our rally site and experience a sunny day. Marlene and Liz manned the registration desk and Peter & Jim picked up the parking duties. Members were to arrive during differing times of the day which allowed for the gathering of wood kindly donated by the local golf club along with their toilet and social gathering area.
Given this we did not erect our yellow canopy instead opted for a wind break around the fire area, many were to walk into the town centre and make purchases whilst others opted to take in the afternoon sun.
Happy hour arrived and we were to sing a hearty rendition of happy birthday to Audrey who leaves early in the morning then the dreaded, though beloved Sheriff meted out his punishment to those that he believed have contravened the protocol of the chapter and in good jest those mentioned decided to make a donation to the Heart Foundation.
The afternoon was getting cooler and the fire was stoked up and we enjoyed its warmth before returning to our motorhomes to have our evening meal and then watch the Bulldogs V St Kilda football game. St Kilda won by the shortest of margins.
Saturday morning with overcast weather, though no wind

Saturday morning and there was slight frost, this did not deter Sheriff Dave lighting the fire at around 6am to boil the Billy for breakfast. There were not many up and about at that time of morning. Though the fire and boiled water later was welcome. Come 10am we strolled up to the town hall for the Saturday morning markets. There were plenty of sales of cakes, biscuits, walnuts and other bric a brac, it would be probably true to say that they were not expecting so many of us and were happy with the unexpected sales.
Then around to a garage sale and had a peek at the goods on sale and back to the firepot to eat the lovely food before lunch with plenty of hot water for our cups of tea and coffee.

Gathered around the fire
Rain in the Hinterland
Along the fairway to our Rally Camp
During the afternoon many just gathered by the fire with others watching the golf tournament and a few chose to walk around the headland taking in the wonderful views of the Hazards, Coles Bay, Schouten Passage and south to Maria Island. Though threatening rain it did not occur though you could see the rain in the hinterland. Happy hour arrived and after the normal business our beloved Sheriff berated many of us especially President Jim where it was alleged that his cussing and swearing was upsetting his wife and keeping the camp awake plus his barracking for his beloved St Kilda. Considerable fines were imposed with the proceeds going to the Heart Foundation, as usual it bought much laughter to the fore.
At the R.S.L for our evening meal
Around 6pm we wandered up to the R.S.L for our scheduled evening meal which was delivered quickly and there was plenty of food on the plates, this did not deter a few backing up for sweets. With the Collingwood V Geelong football match commencing many were to gather in the bar to watch and others opted to walk back to the Rally site. The group of members that arrived today opted to have a barbecue and tended the fire so on our return we had a nice hot fire. Many went to their Motorhomes and Campervans to watch the football match and at the end of the game there were some very disappointed Collingwood supporters that drifted off to bed reasonably early.
Lichen covered rocks
Friendly Seal sunning itself
Sunday morning arrived and another group were to take the scenic walk around the foreshore checking out the views of the Bay and the Lichen covered rocks that add a dimension of beauty to the otherwise bare rocks often bashed by the sea.
They were to come across a seal sunning itself on the rock shelf some two metres above the water, obviously it is not shy of people for you could get quite close before it lifts its head to warn you off, a  magnificent creature; though some were to think it  may be injured. Those that did not go on the walk were to stay and enjoy the warmth of the fire and a hot cuppa for the day was windy, threatening rain.
It was time for our general meeting as required by rule and there being little business to conduct it was quickly dealt with President Jim. After closing the meeting he wished everyone a safe journey home including those who intend to camp out for a extra few days. He also again thanked Peter and Veronica for the work that they had carried out to ensure the success of the Rally, to Marlene and Liz for the registration and putting the raffle together and to Jim and Peter for the parking and again Len for arranging wood and use of the Golf Club facilities.
Many were to stay over in Swansea for lunch and others pressing on to Bicheno for lunch before getting back on the road, with the end of school holidays the traffic was very heavy. So until our next rally at Mathinna enjoy and we look forward to coming together again.
