On the edge
of the Rocky Cape National Park, an area renowned for its Aboriginal heritage,
ship wrecks, rock formations turned sideways, beautiful hills running
down to the sea and beaches plus a variety of flowering plants, not to
mention the famous Lighthouse located on the headland close to where we
held our February Rally at the Rocky Cape Tavern. Our hosts Gary and Genevene were on hand to greet us on our arrival with their warm smiles and welcoming banter. The girls on the booking table were kept very busy for members were to start arrive early on the Friday morning and Mick was doing a great job parking up the new arrivals with the normal amount of cheekiness prevailing. |

Gatherings
of members was evident around the ground with the weather a little cloudy
though fine and humid, there was much chatter and then many gathered at
the mini golf course to try their luck. Graeme appeared to be the most
successful of the golfers though Judy was proud of the fact that she achieved
a hole in one, to much acclamation. Happy hour arrived and we gathered and welcomed the many interstate visitors by acclamation, many were here for the 24th Anniversary Rally to be held in around two weeks time. |

Genevene then outlined the weekend activities
as we all enjoyed the sunshine and the friendship that abounded within
the group. Many were to have their evening meal in the Tavern and by all
accounts the food and helpings were most generous and then many retired
to the bar to watch the St Kilda v Collingwood game. There was much chiaking
occurring as we barracked for our respective teams and then it was off
to bed after a good game and a most relaxing day with friends. |

Saturday dawned warm, humid and overcast and
would generally stay that way all weekend. A few members went walkabout
either to the shop or over to the National Park to explore. By all accounts
the walk was excellent with the interpretive boards supplying plenty of
information on the area. Due to the heat of the morning many were sitting around enjoying each others company with a few opting to cool down with a little amber liquid in the Tavern. |

After lunch the ladies adjourned to the Tavern
for a craft class wherein they learnt to make puff pin cushions which
they were to display for all at our happy hour later in the day. By all
reports they were very happy with the relaxing hours spent doing their
craft work. The fellows were keen to play disc bowls and spent several
hours playing with the usual banter about different playing abilities. Happy hour arrived and Birthdays and Anniversary's of members was read out and congratulations were in order and then a rousing rendition of happy birthday was sung. Then left to last was a special birthday song was sung to Glen T9071 who was celebrating his 80th Birthday. Genevene one of our hosts was to drive into Smithton some 60 kilometre's return to purchase a special birthday cake to celebrate the occasion. Thank you very much Gevenene for this kind gesture. Margaret was to cut the cake and a piece was given out to all members and guests by Wendy and Liz. A most enjoyable cake with one musical candle for Glen to blow out! President Jim was to thank our hosts Gary and Genevene for a wonderful weekend and the fact that they went out of their way to ensure that our every need was met and exceeded not to mention their generosity of their time and ongoing camping offers. |

Our Deputy Sheriff Doug was to remonstrate
about our alleged misdemeanors, there was much laughter as he pointed
out and tried to name and shame alleged offenders though he wasn't to
impose any fines. Then the ladies were off to dress in their fineries
for our evening meal and entertainment in the Tavern. |

We were
quickly seated and we had pre dinner drinks whilst Doug played soothing
music to start off the evening. The tavern staff called us up by table
and we all lined to receive our meal. It was a good quality meal which
everyone enjoyed especially the fine spread of desserts. Our hosts Genevene
and Gary were to invite the kitchen staff and management out after the
meal and President Jim was to thank them for a fine spread and the service
they provided and members responded by acclamation. |

Bob
and Doug were to supply the music for our after dinner dance and as usual
they combined well together to give us some fine music for dancing. After
completing each music session they were to receive much clapping and cheers.
Many were hop onto the dance floor and dance the rest of the night away.
Some had commented that our Vice President Don was sitting at a table
of only woman and a remark was made that they were his harem. This lead
to much laughter and then he was to get the ladies in a conga line and
they really were having a wonderful time. Of course Paul was to entertain
us with his dancing style he certainly likes his dancing. We were to head
off to bed most satisfied with the meal and entertainment. The evening
was still humid so many were to sit outside their motorhome's to cool
down before finally retiring |

Dancing the evening away |
Sunday morning
was overcast though humid, the sun was to poke its nose through the clouds
and sadly this was the day that we would be leaving our Rally site. It
wasn't long before our General Meeting time arrived and during apologies
it was sad to hear that Pat and Colin had to leave early for Pat had taken
ill and had to leave early. The meeting of members wished her a speedy
recovery. With the usual business over it was time to relax before heading
off to wherever members were heading. Some indicated that they were heading
into Stanley for fish and chips for lunch before camping out again tonight
and so with our hosts thanking us for our attendance and wishing us a
safe journey we all left the Tavern camp ground. |
