On many occasions members or those in Chapters of the Campervan & Motorhome Club of Australia Limited ( C.M.C.A.) dream of having a patch of ground where Rally's and camping can take place, an area where camaraderie of people with like minded travelling and camping aspirations can be experienced.
A few members of the Blue Gum Rovers, a chapter located in the southern area of Tasmania held such aspirations and vowed to seek out suitable areas.
So it was that Roy carrying out work for the Southern Midlands Council came across the very much neglected old football ground at Tunnack which was complete with many buildings. On enquiring Roy discovered that the complex was now out of service, on reporting back to the Blue Gum Rovers Pawleena Rally it was unanamous that both Roy and Chapter President Don approach the Southern Midlands Council.
Ted I would envisage that you would have some early photo's of the complex to replace these fill ins etc these are for demo only

Many discussions with the Council transpired, which finally led to a proposal for the refurbishment and utilisation of the complex by Blue Gum Rovers members and their visitors and guests.
It was a win/win situation for the local Community, Council and of course Blue Gum Rovers Members. The final outcome was that there would be a ground management committee consisting of two members each from Council, the local Community and Blue Gum Rovers; their purpose would be to oversee the refurbishment and the overall functioning of the Blue Haven Tunnack Retreat.
There have been many voluntary working bee's carried out by the founding members of Blue Gum Rovers along with the local Community and Council where we have seen the refurbishment of very old buildings into warm and comfortable club rooms and plenty of open space for Campervans and Motorhomes of all shapes and sizes. Also constructed is a barbecue area and large fire compound for people to sit around and enjoy each others company.
This is a classic example of co-operation between many people to revive an old disused football ground and it buildings that had been vandilised to a certain degree.
The Council have public liability coverage on the complex and today we see many changes being made and improvements carried out using the income generated by our members and other Chapters and Groups using the complex.
Though there is only limited power outlets future plans include the establishment of many power poles funding permitting, all funds raised from overnight stays or longer are ploughed back into making the complex much more visitor friendly.
